The cliché of Paris as an expensive city is hard to crack. And yet, there’s a long list of arguments challenging this “bad reputation” in comparison with certain other cities: where culture is concerned for example, it is already common knowledge that the majority of national museums and are free for under-18s, and for everyone on the first Sunday of each month, not to mention free admission for all to the permanent collections of the Paris city museums, all year round. Local multicultural venues to visit

-La Petite Rockette

In the heart of the popular 11th, La Petite Rockette is a brand new artistic and cultural venue. Run by an artistic collective (visual artists, graphic designers, cultural associations, dancers, actors, musicians, sportspeople…), this association proposes classes in contemporary dance, fashion design, visual arts, photography, etc. all year round, as well as three large rehearsal rooms. All at very attractive prices: 1€ per person per hour for rehearsals and 5€ for the classes. Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 2pm to 10pm, La Petite Rockette also hosts exhibitions, plays and concerts.

-Le Petit Ney

The literary café Le Petit Ney is a cultural venue to be found in the 18th arrondissement. All week, it hosts cookery or fashion workshops for local residents and reading and writing workshops for both kids and grown-ups, while also acting as an intermediary for associations. But Le Petit Ney also puts on concerts, serves affordable snacks and organises storytelling aperitifs, reading evenings, fair trade initiatives and afternoon sing-songs. A unique space, reflecting the character of the neighbourhood.

-Le Point Ephémère

Installed in former dockyards of the canal Saint Martin, the Point Ephèmère constitutes an avant-garde space devoted to music, dance, graphic arts and all forms of contemporary art. In summer, its uncluttered terrace is ideal for enjoying the sunshine and the water’s edge.
